The Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Segun Tomori, has stepped down from his role to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Tomori, who worked with the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, made his decision public on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
He announced that he would be seeking to represent Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in Lagos State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
He explained that his move into the race followed years of involvement in politics and a growing interest in governance.
According to him, his journey began with close attention to Nigeria’s political history, especially events surrounding the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which played a key role in shaping his political awareness.
Tomori said his early exposure to the struggle for democracy influenced his decision to pursue public service.
He recalled how the reactions of people around him during that period left a lasting impression and pushed him to follow political developments closely.
He also pointed to the role played by notable figures such as Bola Tinubu, Anthony Enahoro, and Dan Suleiman, as well as his former boss, Alake, in the pro-democracy movement under National Democratic Coalition, which contributed to Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999.
