The Labour Party (LP) has appointed the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, as Chairman of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for its forthcoming national convention.
The appointment was announced in a list released on Thursday by the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Ginger Onwusibe.
The party had earlier fixed its national convention for April 11, 2026, but later rescheduled it to April 28 in Umuahia, Abia State.
A previous statement by the Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Asogwa, said the postponement was to allow broader participation in the party’s membership re-registration exercise.
In a statement co-signed by the convention secretary, Salisu Mohammad, the party said the appointments were in line with its constitution and decisions of the National Executive Council.
“Sequel to the decision of the National Leadership of our great Party to conduct the 2026 Elective Congresses and National Convention… the leadership of the Convention and Congresses Central Committee… has constituted the following subcommittees and approved their membership composition,” the statement read.
Agbese and members of his committee are expected to oversee publicity for the convention both locally and internationally.
Their duties include managing press accreditation, coordinating media relations, and handling live broadcasts and streaming.
The committee is also tasked with managing social media engagement, documenting proceedings, and supporting overall communication strategies for the event.
Other members of the subcommittee include Ekeoma Ferdinand (Alternate Chairman), Prince Okey, Dodo Okafor, Enemenka, Victoria Kalu, Agnes Lolo, Jesse Ukachukwu, Muttaqa Yushau, Lanre Fadahunsi, Ure Abazie and Ayu Olowu.
Ken Asogwa and Ukoha Njoku will serve as Secretary and Assistant Secretary, respectively.
Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, recently defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Labour Party.
He cited internal crises within the APC in Benue State as the reason for his move, while pledging continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s policies.
He has since assumed leadership of the Labour Party structure in Benue State.
