One of the Nigeria Police Force’s officers has been arrested and detained on suspicion of extorting a driver in Lagos State’s Idimu neighborhood.

The move comes after a driver claimed in a widely shared video on the internet that he was stopped by an officer despite having all the necessary paperwork for his automobile and that he was then forced to give up cash because he didn’t agree with the color of his vehicle.

The driver claims that the officer threatened to arrest him and claimed that the car was “grey” instead of “ash,” as stated in the registration documents. The police then demanded N30,000, which was then lowered to N10,000.

In a statement released on X on Wednesday, the police responded to the event by stating that the offending officer had been located and placed under arrest.

“UPDATE: The officer seen in the viral video posted by #epiccycl has been identified, arrested, detained, and questioned,” the statement said. The whole results of the inquiry will be made available as soon as possible by the #LagosPoliceNG.

The Force further stated that the officer is presently undergoing disciplinary actions and that, once internal reviews are finished, the investigation’s findings will be made public.
