The Kwara State Government has directed all public and private schools in the state to reopen on Monday, April 20, 2026, for the start of the third term following a three-week break.
The decision was communicated in a statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, after consultations with stakeholders across the education sector.
Speaking in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the resumption date aligns with the state’s academic calendar and reflects a consensus reached with key players in the sector.
He praised both teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedication, noting that their contributions have supported noticeable improvements in learning outcomes in public schools.
Olohungbebe also pointed to ongoing reforms under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, attributing progress in the sector to sustained investment, policy consistency, and collaboration among stakeholders.
The commissioner stressed the need to maintain this cooperation to further strengthen the quality of education across the state.
He urged students returning for the new term to remain disciplined and focused, emphasizing that commitment to their studies and good conduct would set them up for success and reflect positively on their schools and families.
