The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Jigawa State, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the move is aimed at strengthening opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ringim formally announced his defection on Saturday, April 25, 2026, during his membership registration with the party in Ringim Local Government Area of the state, where a large crowd of supporters gathered to witness the event.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that while addressing the mammoth gathering, the former NNPP chieftain said his decision to leave the NNPP was driven by the need to collaborate with like-minded politicians to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He cited insecurity, inflation, hunger, and unemployment as major issues confronting the country, stressing that a united opposition was necessary to “rescue” Nigeria.
According to him, Nigerians must come together to confront what he described as the “hardship and humiliation” under the current administration.
Ringim urged his supporters and residents of Jigawa State to register with the ADC, noting that a formidable opposition platform would be required to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
He also dismissed claims that the ADC coalition would disintegrate after its primaries, insisting that similar doubts had been expressed in the past but proved unfounded.
“They said Obi, Kwankwaso and Atiku will not be together, and now they are together. Now they are saying after the party primaries, ADC will not survive.
“They also said in Jigawa we will not be together, and now we are together. They are rumouring that after the primary election, ADC will be no more.
“It is our agreement that we will put our state and country first, work for it, and make sure we change the government for the betterment of the state and the country,” he said.
The politician further revealed that ADC leaders in Jigawa State and across the country had resolved to remain united and rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate after its primary elections.
He noted that both leaders and supporters in the state were committed to working together for the progress of Jigawa and Nigeria at large.
Ringim disclosed that more than 15 million Nigerians had already registered with the ADC, adding that the party was targeting an additional 30 million registrations nationwide ahead of the 2027 polls.
He called on Nigerians to join the movement, expressing optimism that the party would provide a brighter future for the country.
Ringim previously contested the Jigawa State governorship election in 2015 and again in 2023 under the NNPP platform, positioning himself as a key figure in the state’s opposition politics.
