The United States and Iran have made some progress in ongoing negotiations but are still far from a final agreement, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, said on state television on Saturday. Iran also announced it would close the Strait of Hormuz again on Saturday, citing repeated breaches of trust, while the United States continues its naval blockade on Iranian ports. Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil shipping routes in the world.
Earlier, Iran had proposed that vessels pay a fee for secure passage through the waterway, with ships paying the charge being given priority over others. This step has further complicated talks and increased concerns over global energy and shipping stability.

Ghalibaf said Iran views the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic advantage. He claimed that while the enemy has not been destroyed, Iran believes it has gained the upper hand in the standoff. His remarks suggest Tehran is trying to project strength while negotiations continue.
Ceasefire Deadline Adds Pressure to Ongoing Talks
A fragile two-week ceasefire between the two countries is set to expire on Wednesday, creating uncertainty about whether it will be extended. The truce was intended to support diplomatic efforts, but continued tensions in the Gulf region have slowed progress. Ghalibaf said talks are still ongoing, but major differences remain unresolved and a final agreement is still far away.
