A former senator representing Kogi West and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of bias and misinterpreting a court order.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Melaye said the commission’s actions had further weakened public confidence in the electoral process.

In a video posted on his 𝕏 page, the ADC chieftain alleged that INEC had failed to act impartially and should be held accountable.

He said, “We expect that the president will either sack these people or they will sack themselves because INEC has misinterpreted the order of the court, they have shown partiality.

“They have shown that they are a department of APC, and we have lost confidence in them.”

Melaye maintained that the conduct of the electoral umpire had raised serious concerns about its neutrality. He said those responsible for the development should either be removed from office or resign.

According to him, the commission’s alleged partiality has deepened distrust among political stakeholders and the public.

The criticism came as chieftains of the ADC, led by factional Interim National Chairman, David Mark, staged a protest at the headquarters of INEC over the delisting of the party.

Among those involved in the protest were former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and other opposition figures.
