The Imo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has officially received.former Deputy Governor of the State, Prince Eze Madumere, and an erstwhile House of Assembly member, Uche Ogbuagu, back to the party.
Alongside their supporters, they were received at the party’s secretariat in Owerri by officials of the National Working Committee led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, who in his speech, said the event marked a turning point in the history of the party in the state.
Abdulrahman added that prominent figures that have joined the party showed that PDP is still relevant and ready to participate effectively in any electoral contest.
He declared that PDP is one,
maintaining that all internal wranglings have been resolved, except for those who are in the mission of trying to destroy the party.
He advised the new members to feel at home and put in their best for the stability and progress of the party, assuring them of equal treatment.
In his remarks, the National Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, said that haters of the party are saying that it is dead but recent developments have shown that PDP is fully alive and active with a focused agenda.
“Today is very significant in our political journey, those received here Today are prominent figures in the persons of Prince Eze Madumere, former Deputy Governor of the State, Uche Ogbuagu former House of Assembly member, Professor Awuzie, Sir Mike Ejiogu, Vitus Nwoke, Anthony Odunze and others.
“Before now people are saying that PDP is dead but Today what happened here showed that the party is fully alive,” he said.
Anyanwu added that the party is strategically planning to take over elective positions at the state and national levels to reshape the nation’s economy.
He appealed to Nigerians, especially the Imo electorate, to identify with the party maintaining that the umbrella is large enough to accommodate everybody.
Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of the party, Austin Nwachukwu, said Imo PDP is marking a double celebration, receiving members of the National Working Committee and opening its doors to receive new members who have chosen to join the party.
Nwachukwu maintained that there was no doubt that the party faced internal disputes in recent time at the national level, which according to him nearly consumed it.
“Yes, it seemed like the centre could barely stand firm. The people, media organizations who hated us because of the progress we have made, feasted on our crisis and our opponents rejoiced thinking PDP has finished.
“But I stand here Today with my shoulders high to announce to Ndi Imo, Nigerians and the world at large that lasting settlement has been availed through the fatherly role of our national leader, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, our national secretary, Samuel Nna Emeka Anyanwu and all other well meaning leaders,” he said.
Nwachukwu told the new members that their decision to join the party is a positive step, asserting that they have not just joined a political party but a family.
He assured them that their resolve to join PDP is one of their best life changing decisions, which they will never regret.
“You come to PDP because you have seen the truth, structure with clear plan for the good people of the state and Nigeria. l assure you that in PDP you have found home where exists equal rights, privileges and opportunities. The umbrella is large enough to cover all of us,” he added.
In their separate speeches, the new members pledged their total loyalty to the leadership of the party and promised to abide by the party’s constitution.
