The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has disowned a viral video circulating online, describing it as malicious and falsely attributed to the Commission.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by John Okor Odey, Head, Media and Public Communications, the Commission said the images, names and content in the video were fabricated, with some elements suspected to be artificially generated.
The ICPC stated that the video was deliberately created to mislead unsuspecting members of the public and has no connection whatsoever with the Commission.
“The ICPC states unequivocally that the images, names, and content in the video are fabricated and, in some instances, AI-generated, designed solely to mislead unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement read.
The Commission further clarified that it has not issued any report or statement supporting the claims contained in the video, including the alleged involvement of any individual or judicial officer.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the ICPC is not investigating any individual, SAN, group of lawyers, or judicial officer in connection with the fictitious ₦50 billion bribe referenced in the video. No such case exists within the records of the Commission,” it stated.
It described the claims as entirely false and urged the public to disregard them.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting credible and evidence-based investigations in line with the law.
It also warned individuals or groups behind the creation and circulation of the video to desist, stressing that it would not tolerate the misuse of its name for disinformation.
“Those responsible for originating or amplifying this malicious content, when apprehended, will face serious legal consequences,” the statement added.
The ICPC advised members of the public to rely only on its official communication channels for verified information.
