The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has denied any link with the controversial display of red underwear by a group of young women during a rally held in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu.
The Kano State Governor insisted that he wasn’t aware of such activity, nor did he give approval for it.
PrimeTimes Nigeria recalls that videos of red underwear being displayed during a rally in Kano State over the weekend quickly went viral online, with reports claiming it was part of an empowerment initiative backed by the Kano State government.
However, speaking at a special prayer session at the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf distanced himself from the rally, stating that it was done without his knowledge and approval.
He also condemned the public display of underwear, which featured during the programme, noting that it goes against the cultural and religious values of the people of the state.
“You have heard what happened. We were going about our normal activities when I was informed that some young women displayed inappropriate items. I was not aware of it.”
“Such actions are against our culture and the teachings of Islam, and we strongly condemn them,” the Governor said.
