Former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has asserted that opposition leaders will not stand idle while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) undermines the will of the people.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a mammoth crowd of supporters staged a peaceful protest at the INEC office in Abuja on Wednesday.
The protesters, who included Kwankwaso, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Governors, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi, were led by a factional National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark.
The protest followed the electoral umpire’s decision to derecognise the Mark-led faction of the party.
Sharing photos of the protest on his Facebook page, Kwankwaso described the INEC decision on the party’s crisis as blatant partisanship and compromised neutrality.
He said, “I joined fellow coalition leaders and committed democrats to strongly condemn the blatant partisanship and compromised neutrality.
“Peaceful procession in Abuja united various opposition groups in a clear message: we will not stand idly by while our electoral umpire undermines the will of the people.
“We shall continue to closely monitor INEC’s activities and demand that it immediately returns to the path of impartiality, transparency, and professionalism so that democracy can thrive in Nigeria.”
