Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed satisfaction with the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
PrimeTimes Nigeria recalls that the apex court, in its ruling on Thursday, affirmed the faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by the former Senate President, David Mark.
In its ruling on Thursday, the Supreme Court vacated the order directing the ADC to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the determination of its leadership crisis.
The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel headed by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, held that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal acted beyond its jurisdiction by unilaterally issuing such an order after it had already dismissed a case that was brought before it by one of the factions.
Reacting in a statement, Atiku congratulated Mark on the verdict of the Supreme Court but warned that the ADC must not be complacent as there is still a lot at stake.
He said the victory belongs to all Nigerians and urged supporters of the ADC to remain steadfast because the struggle is far from over.
“Even as we welcome the Supreme Court’s firm affirmation of David Mark and the leadership of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, let no one be lulled into complacency. The road ahead remains long in our cause to take back and rescue our country.
“This victory belongs to Nigerians, the courageous millions who refuse to surrender their future. We thank them, and we urge them to remain steadfast, because the struggle is far from over. As we press on, let this truth guide us: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” he wrote.
