The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has attributed the losses suffered by his party in the 25 November 2025 Anambra State governorship election and the 26 February 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections to several factors, including a lack of funds and a weak structure.
He made the admission on Tuesday at the party’s ongoing national convention.
Speaking at the event, the former Osun State governor said the ADC lost both elections because opponents employed the power of incumbency and the monetisation of the electoral process.
He added that his party also struggled internally with inadequate funding and an unprepared organisational structure.

He said: “Our party participated in the 2025 Anambra State and the 26 February FCT local government elections.
“We were not victorious for various reasons, including the fact that our opponents employed the power of incumbency, the monetisation of the electoral process, and the misuse of state power. On our side, we suffered from poor funding and the general unreadiness of our structure.”
Aregbesola noted, however, that the ADC learnt valuable lessons from these setbacks and is now better prepared for future polls.
“However, we have learnt from these lessons and are ready for the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun State governorship elections,” he added.
