Supporters of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada staged a solidarity rally in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, in a show of support for his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The rally, which drew a large crowd from across the state, is seen as a demonstration of Wadada’s growing political influence and grassroots appeal.
Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West in the senate, has emerged as a key figure in the succession race ahead of the end of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s tenure.
Political observers say his recent return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strengthened his position within the ruling party.
Wadada previously left the APC in 2022 over disputes surrounding the party’s primaries before joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he won the Nasarawa West senatorial seat in 2023 in what was widely regarded as a major upset.
He has since rejoined the APC, signalling a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
Wadada began his political career in 2003 when he was elected to the House of Representatives, representing Keffi/Karu/Kokona federal constituency.
He later built a strong political network across Nasarawa through his legislative roles and grassroots engagement.
His earlier attempt to secure the APC governorship ticket in 2019 saw him finish second during the party’s primary election.
Supporters at the Lafia rally described him as a seasoned politician with the experience and structure needed to lead the state.
They also cited his longstanding presence in grassroots politics and ability to mobilise support across different political divides.
His supporters say his governorship bid is driven by a vision to expand development and strengthen governance in Nasarawa state.
