The Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Engr. (Dr.) Lawson Olorunwa Sunday as the Acting Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, with effect from April 25, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the appointment was announced as part of efforts to ensure seamless administrative continuity at the institution.
The appointment follows the retirement of the former Rector, Dr Adegun Simeon Olurunwa, whose tenure ended on April 24, 2026.
Olorunwa, a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology of the institution, brings over two decades of experience within the Nigerian polytechnic system to the new role.
He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Technology and is a registered engineer with more than 25 years of academic and administrative experience.
Over the years, he has served the institution in various capacities, including as Deputy Rector, Director of Works, and Head of Department. Until his appointment, he was the Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic.
A native of Ajagba in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, Olorunwa is expected to provide leadership for the institution pending the appointment of a substantive rector.
