An aide to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports alleging that top leaders of the All Progressives Congress asked the minister to withdraw from the Oyo State governorship race.
The aide, Femi Awogboro, described the reports as unfounded, insisting that former governors Adebisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba remain supportive of Adelabu’s ambition.
“Chief Akande and Chief Osoba believe strongly in Adelabu’s capacity to uphold progressive ideals in Oyo State. They have consistently supported and encouraged him since his exit from the Central Bank of Nigeria to pursue a career in politics,” he said.
Awogboro also refuted claims that APC South-West leaders held a meeting in Lagos to deliberate on Adelabu’s governorship ambition.
He maintained that no such meeting took place, describing the reports as misleading.
The aide said the minister continues to enjoy widespread support across Oyo State, citing his contributions to society.
“Adelabu has positively touched many lives. His support for youths, widows, and the less privileged across the state cannot be overemphasised,” he said.
He added that despite attempts to discredit him, the minister’s popularity continues to grow.
Awogboro warned individuals spreading false information to desist, stressing that such actions would not deter Adelabu from pursuing his ambition.
He also urged media organisations to verify reports before publication.
“I appeal to media houses to be cautious and always verify the authenticity of any information before publishing,” he said.
The aide called on residents of Oyo State to continue supporting the minister, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity if elected.
