Fabiyi Oladimeji, the Deputy National Financial Secretary of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has insisted that a Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket cannot defeat the ruling party in 2027.
He made this known recently while addressing journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
According to the ADC chieftain, only a presidential ticket featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Obi would give the ADC the required numbers to win in 2027.
He added that the voting strength demonstrated in the 2023 general election shows that an Obi/Kwankwaso pairing would fall short of what is required to upstage the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Oladimeji, however, noted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi have both pledged to back whoever emerges as the ADC presidential candidate, adding that the party is waiting for Obi to make a similar commitment.
He said: “Even Kwankwaso and Obi cannot give us the numbers, I am sorry to say this. The best numbers come from Atiku and Obi.
“The total votes for the three of them were about 14 to 15 million, while the President got about eight million. If these forces come together, Nigerians will see the difference.
“Atiku has said he will support whoever emerges. Amaechi has said the same thing. We are expecting Peter Obi to also make that commitment because this is not about personal ambition; it is about rescuing the country.”
