Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, met behind closed doors on Wednesday.
PrimeTimes Nigeria learnt that the meeting was held at Amaechi’s Abuja residence, and it may not be unconnected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.
Recall that Atiku, Amaechi and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, are battling for the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 party’s primary.
There has been debate over whether the ADC candidacy should be zoned to the South.
However, there are claims that Amaechi may step down to run with Atiku as his running mate.
Meanwhile, former local government chairmanship candidate of the ADC in Imo State, Collins Osuagwu, has urged Atiku to reconsider any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Osuagwu, in an open letter, appealed to Atiku to support a younger presidential candidate, saying such a decision would promote national stability and strengthen his political legacy.
He said the former vice president should now embrace the role of a statesman rather than pursue another presidential bid.
‘Step aside for the younger candidate’
Osuagwu noted that Atiku had made several attempts to become Nigeria’s president since 1992, adding that his continued pursuit of the office might no longer reflect current political realities.
He described stepping aside as an act of wisdom, strength and legacy-building.
