‘Wishful Implosion In APC Will Never Happen’ – Basiru Hits Opposition Parties

Ajibola Basiru

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out the possibility of an implosion in the party, describing the purported imminent internal collapse as the wishful thinking of the opposition parties.

Naija News recalls that the opposition parties had predicted that the APC would experience an implosion after its congresses and convention, due to the influx of opposition governors, lawmakers, and others defecting into the party.

However, the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, in an interview with Punch, said nothing in the ruling party suggests any crack, let alone a crisis, following its just-concluded congresses and the forthcoming national convention and primaries.

Basiru maintained that the outcome of the convention would shock the opposition, noting that the process would promote party unity rather than the division the opposition anticipated.

He urged the opposition parties to organise themselves and stop wishing for the collapse of any political platform as a means of survival.

He said, “It is just the wishful thinking of the opposition, and it is not going to happen. We just organised congresses across the country, and everything went well, except in two or three states where we have to resolve differences among party members.

“We’re organised and united, and as we always tell the evil wishers, there will be no implosion before or after our convention and primaries. Our primaries will be organised in a fair and transparent way to ensure accountability. We will shock the opposition.

“I will urge the opposition not to participate in the elections if what they are waiting for or banking on is a wishful implosion in our party that will never happen. They do not need to wait for the death of a platform for their survival.”
