An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Tony Nwobodo, has questioned former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his achievements during his time as minister.
Speaking in a chat with newsmen following a visit to the Enugu South Local Government Chairman, Nwobodo stated that Amaechi has no moral authority to advise the South-East on who to vote for.
He warned the people of the region not to allow sentiments to sway their support away from President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
“Let nobody listen to anyone, even if the person is my own father. Let us come together as a state and as a nation and give honour to whom honour is due,” Nwobodo stated.
Nwobodo, who described himself as a “multimillionaire” due to the skyrocketing value of his property under the current administration, argued that the South-East would be making a grave strategic error by not voting for the President’s second term.
“I want to advise all the Eastern states’ people, let us not make the same mistake again. If we make this mistake, it will be like missing your exit on an expressway overseas; it will take a long way to find a route back. We are not ready to get back to where we were before; we have to be moving forward,” he warned.
“I overheard Rotimi Amaechi saying if Tinubu wins again, he will do this and that, but when he was Minister for eight years, what did he do for us? Why is he coming now to advise us?” Nwobodo added.
Addressing the controversial issue of increased taxation, Nwobodo, who lived abroad for over three decades, argued that the visible infrastructure justified the levies.
“Overseas, where I lived for 34 years, I have been paying my taxes. All this while we were staying without tax, nothing was going on, and we were complaining. The tax goes on, and work goes on at the same time,” he said.
