Tory Lanez’s conviction in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion will stand.
The California Supreme Court has declined to review the case, effectively leaving the rapper’s 10-year prison sentence intact. Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was found guilty in December 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and other related charges stemming from a July 2020 incident in the Hollywood Hills.
During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez shot her in the feet following an argument after a gathering at Kylie Jenner’s home.
She told jurors she was certain he fired the gun and later offered her money to stay quiet. Megan said he told her to “dance” before shots rang out.
An appellate court previously ruled that the evidence presented at trial was sufficient to support the jury’s findings. Lanez was sentenced in August 2023.
At sentencing, prosecutors argued the shooting was fueled by a bruised ego. His defense team countered that alcohol played a role and maintained there was no intent to kill.
In a separate development, a judge granted Megan a restraining order against Lanez in early 2025 after she alleged he was coordinating harassment against her from prison.
