Lil Nas X Pleads Insanity In Police Assault Case — Seeks Diversion To Avoid Jail

Rapper Lil Nas X is taking a dramatic legal step as he fights criminal charges stemming from an incident in Los Angeles last year.

Media Take Out learned that the Grammy-winning star, whose real name is Montero Hill, appeared in court Thursday in Van Nuys, California, where his legal team asked a judge to place him in a mental health diversion programinstead of sending him to trial.

If approved, the move could allow the rapper to avoid prison entirely.

The Incident That Led To The Charges

Lil Nas X was arrested back in August after police said they encountered him walking naked along Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles.

According to police reports, when officers attempted to detain him, the rapper allegedly became violent and assaulted multiple officers.

Authorities claim he used “force and violence” against the officers and injured three members of the police department.

The artist was later charged with three counts of battery.

He spent a day in jail before being released on $75,000 bail.

What Is A Diversion Program?

Now his legal team is asking the court to allow him to enter a diversion program, which is designed to help people address underlying mental health or behavioral issues instead of immediately facing criminal punishment.

Under California law, diversion programs may include:

• counseling
• therapy
• rehabilitation programs
• substance abuse treatment

If the defendant successfully completes the program, the criminal charges can sometimes be dismissed, allowing them to avoid jail time and a permanent criminal record.

Participants may also avoid some of the long-term consequences of a conviction, such as difficulty finding employment or housing.

His Lawyer Calls The Incident An “Aberration”

Lil Nas X’s attorney, Christy O’Connor, told the judge that the alleged incident does not reflect the rapper’s normal behavior.

“Assuming the allegations here are true, this is an absolute aberration in this person’s life,” O’Connor said in court.

She also stressed that drugs were not involved in the incident, despite earlier speculation online.

The court has also required Lil Nas X to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week while the case continues.

Lil Nas X Speaks To Fans

Despite the serious legal situation, the rapper appeared calm after his hearing and took a moment to address his supporters.

Outside the courthouse he told reporters:

“All I wanted to say is to my fans, I really love and I miss you, and I appreciate your support so much, and I can’t wait to be back hugging you guys.”

The artist had previously reassured fans on Instagram shortly after his arrest, telling them that everything would ultimately be okay.

What Happens Next

The judge will now decide whether Lil Nas X qualifies for the diversion program.

If approved, he could enter treatment and avoid the risk of prison time altogether.

If denied, however, the case could move forward to trial where the rapper would have to fight the assault charges in court.

For now, fans are watching closely to see whether the controversial legal strategy will keep one of music’s biggest stars out of jail.
