The cause of death for Lil Jon’s son, Nathan “DJ Young Slade” Smith, has been confirmed.
According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, Smith died from accidental drowning in the setting of psilocybin use. The autopsy report, released on Feb. 26, noted the presence of a hallucinogenic compound associated with psychedelic mushrooms in his system.
Smith was first reported missing on Feb. 3 by the Milton Police Department in Georgia. Three days later, authorities discovered his body in a nearby pond, sending shockwaves through the local community and the music world.
In a previous statement shared with E! News, Lil Jon spoke candidly about the loss. “I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith,” he said. “His mother and I are devastated.”
He remembered Nathan as “the kindest human being you would ever meet,” adding that his son was “immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate and warmhearted.”
A graduate of New York University, Smith built his own path in music as a club DJ, producer and engineer. “We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him,” Lil Jon shared, calling the memories they hold close a source of comfort during an unthinkable time.
