Fetty Wap is opening up about his time before bars, and he says that support was sparse.
During a recent appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the rapper opened up about his time in federal prison and shared that one person remained by his side consistently.
“When that time happened, I’m just like, ‘Alright, you know what? I got my sister,’” he said, referring to his sister, Divinity Maxwell-Butts.
Fetty, whose real name is Willie Maxwell II, explained that while he had strong relationships with friends, he noticed a shift once he was no longer physically present in their lives.
Fetty Wap says the only person who truly stood by him after he went to prison was his sister, even though he says he took care of all his friends when he was free.

“On the outside, they’ll do anything for me,” he said. “But when you not around, you on their time now.”
He then recalled the way that she stepped in to help manage aspects of his legal situation while simultaneously keeping her own affairs in order.
“My sister moved on my time,” he said. “She was dealing with her own life and still handling things for me.”
The rapper served time after pleading guilty in a federal drug case and was later released to home confinement earlier this year.
