Justin Bieber and Usher are reportedly facing renewed tension years after their once-close mentor relationship.
According to sources, the strain between the two artists recently came to a head during Oscars weekend at an afterparty hosted by Jay-Z and Beyoncé. TMZ was the first news outlet to report the alleged incident.
“On Oscar night, it reached a boiling point,” one insider told The Blast, adding that Usher felt Bieber’s behavior “was out of line.”
While the interaction did not turn physical, sources claim emotions were high. “[Usher] held himself back,” the insider said, noting he chose not to escalate the situation out of respect for the hosts.
Usher, who helped launch Bieber’s career, is said to feel that “loyalty and gratitude” have not been returned. Usher played a key role in launching Bieber’s career in the late 2000s, helping introduce the then-teen singer to major industry figures and secure his first record deal. After discovering Bieber’s talent through early online videos, Usher connected him with executives, including L.A. Reid, which ultimately led to his signing with Island Def Jam.
Those close to Bieber, however, describe a different perspective. One source said the singer has intentionally created distance, claiming he feels he “wasn’t protected” during his early years in the industry.
Another insider suggested Bieber’s behavior may stem from internal struggles rather than disrespect. “What’s being taken as disrespect may actually be him feeling guilty or ashamed,” the source said.
The pair have not publicly addressed the situation.
