Cynthia Erivo is brushing off gossip about her latest stage role while continuing to celebrate a busy moment in her career.
The Tony Award-winning performer is currently starring in a new theatrical adaptation of Dracula at London’s Noël Coward Theatre. The ambitious production, directed by Kip Williams, features Erivo performing a roughly 20,000-word monologue while portraying more than 20 characters from Bram Stoker’s classic novel.
The show combines live camera work with prerecorded visuals as Erivo moves between roles during the performance and social media users recently joked about the production after noticing a teleprompter being used during the show.
Erivo has not directly responded to the criticism but continues to focus on the project’s scale and the challenge of bringing the gothic tale to life. “Cynthia was furious and irritated by the suggestion she couldn’t handle the material. Anyone who understands the scale of the performance knows it’s an enormous task – it’s essentially a marathon of storytelling,” the source told RadarOnline.
The stage return comes after a busy run in film and television, including her appearance as Elphaba in the upcoming Wicked sequel following the success of the first movie in 2024.
Erivo also recently cleared up speculation surrounding her relationship with Ariana Grande, her Wicked co-star. After the internet suggested tension between the two, Erivo reassured fans that their bond remains strong.
“Ari is my girl,” she said during a recent conversation with fans. “People love to create drama, but we support each other completely.”
