A California jury has found Bill Cosby liable in a civil case involving allegations dating back decades, awarding $59.25 million to Donna Motsinger.

The verdict followed a trial in Santa Monica, where jurors determined Cosby was responsible for sexual battery. The award includes $17.5 million in past damages, $1.75 million in future damages, and an additional $40 million in punitive damages.

Motsinger shared a statement after the decision. “This verdict is not just about me,” she said. “It’s about finally being heard and holding him accountable.” She added, “I have carried this for more than 50 years. Today, a jury saw the truth.”

Cosby’s legal team responded soon after. Attorney Jennifer Bonjean said they are “disappointed” and plan to appeal. “We intend to challenge this outcome,” she said.

According to court filings, Motsinger alleged she was drugged and assaulted in 1972. Cosby has denied the claims. His attorneys argued the case relied on “speculation” and questioned the account presented in court.

The jury deliberated for about two days before reaching a decision.

Motsinger’s legal team also spoke out. “We are grateful to the jury,” one attorney said. “It took courage for her to come forward.”
