Chet Hanks is dealing with an unexpected travel snag that has left him temporarily stuck overseas.
The actor and musician shared on Instagram that he is currently unable to leave Colombia due to passport issues. Hanks explained that he traveled to Medellín after celebrating a birthday in Puerto Rico, planning to spend time with a friend before heading home. Instead, he says he hit a roadblock at the airport.
According to Hanks, he entered Colombia using his Greek passport. He holds dual citizenship and chose not to travel on his U.S. passport because it was close to expiring. When he tried to board his return flight, airline staff informed him he would need additional documentation to re-enter the United States if traveling on a foreign passport.
“They tell me that if I’m using a foreign passport, I need a green card to get back into America,” he said. “I don’t have a green card because I’m an American citizen, so I’m literally stuck in Colombia.”
Hanks said he may need assistance from the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá. “I literally have no idea what I’m gonna do,” he added. “Free me. I’m an American citizen.”
For now, he remains in Medellín awaiting a solution.
