A civil society group, Benue Intelligence Watch has raised alarm over alleged plans to trigger insecurity in the Ado Local government area of the state
In a statement issued on behalf of the organisation, Ambassador Jude Tsegha ( National Coordinator), Chief Donald Agada (National Secretary), and Dr. (Mrs) Helen Akpareshi (Public Relations Officer) alleged that the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mrs. Lami Danladi Ogenyi is planning activities that could lead to renewed insecurity in the Ado Local government area.
The group stated that the lawmaker was allegedly mobilising youths to stage a protest against the administration of the Ado Local Government Chairman, Engineer Oche Sunday Oche.
According to the group’s leaders, the planned protest could heighten tensions and threaten the fragile peace in the area.
They also alleged that the deputy speaker had previously accused the council chairman of kidnapping and other criminal activities in a petition reportedly sent to the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The group said investigations by the police later cleared the chairman of the allegations.
It further claimed that the deputy speaker had been involved in actions capable of undermining peace efforts in the local government.
The organisation called on the Inspector General of Police to ignore any fresh petitions against the council chairman and to investigate the allegations raised against the lawmaker.
It also appealed to Governor Hyacinth Alia to monitor political developments in the state in order to prevent any escalation of tensions.
