A new legal request has surfaced in the case surrounding the 2024 killing of Jacksonville rapper Charles Jones, widely known as Julio Foolio.
An attorney representing one of the remaining defendants has asked the court to allow his client to face trial separately from the others accused in the shooting. The request was filed on behalf of Rashad Murphy, who is among several people charged in connection with the ambush that left the rapper dead.
Jones was fatally shot on June 23, 2024, while celebrating his 26th birthday in Tampa. Investigators allege that multiple suspects traveled from Jacksonville to Tampa the night before in two vehicles with the intent to locate and kill him.
Prosecutors say the attack was tied to an ongoing conflict between rival Jacksonville groups.

According to court filings, Murphy’s attorney previously raised the issue during a hearing, but the judge has not yet issued a final decision. The defense argues that certain forensic evidence connected to earlier shootings involving co-defendants could be introduced at trial.
If allowed, that evidence could potentially apply to all defendants in a joint trial.
Meanwhile, one defendant has already faced a jury. Alicia Andrews was convicted of manslaughter in the case and is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
Another hearing related to the remaining defendants is expected to take place soon.
