C-Murder has reached another dead end in his long legal fight, as the Louisiana Supreme Court declined to hear a new appeal tied to his murder conviction.
The decision, issued Tuesday, leaves the rapper’s second degree murder conviction and life sentence for the 2002 killing of 16-year-old Steven Thomas at a nightclub in Harvey, Louisiana. Real name, Corey Miller, now 54, has spent years arguing that flaws in the original case deserve renewed scrutiny.
Court records show the conviction was previously upheld by an appellate court and later reviewed again by the state’s high court more than a decade ago. Since then, Miller has filed multiple requests for post-conviction relief, citing recanted testimony from two witnesses and concerns about DNA evidence collected during the investigation.
Those arguments did not persuade the justices this time. In a brief order, the court wrote, “Applicant has previously exhausted his right to state collateral review and fails to show that any exception permits his successive filing.”
Miller, the younger brother of Master P, maintains his innocence and continues to seek avenues for reconsideration. His supporters have cited shifting witness accounts and alleged investigative shortcomings as reasons to reopen the case.
