Shaunie Henderson announced that the long-running reality franchise Basketball Wives will not return after 12 seasons and 15 years on the air.
Henderson shared the news in a video posted to Instagram on January 29, saying she wanted fans to hear it directly from her. “I wanted to jump on here real quick before the news got out and people try to be messy and make this something that it’s not,” she said. “This is just called growth and moving forward.”
Reflecting on the show’s impact, Henderson added, “What began as a vision to tell my story and stories of women like me grew into a cultural movement that created opportunity, sparked conversation and amplified voices that deserve to be heard.”
She thanked VH1, BET and the women who trusted her with their stories. “Season after season, growth requires evolution and knowing when to honor a chapter while preparing for what’s next,” she said, revealing she is developing new projects focused on creating opportunities for women.
Henderson concluded, “Basketball Wives will always be a cherished part of my legacy.”
Soon after the announcement, former cast member Draya Michele floated the idea of a farewell special, writing, “Maybe like a farewell dinner, but filmed. I’ll co-executive produce.”
Henderson launched the series in 2010, the same year she divorced Shaquille O’Neal, and later remarried in 2022.
