Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn appeal suits filed against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following what they described as a presidential intervention and fresh constitutional undertakings by the state’s executive arm.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the decision was contained in a resolution signed on Thursday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Dr. Enemi George.

George disclosed that the resolution followed agreements reached at a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 8, 2026.

According to him, the governor and his deputy have agreed to refrain from actions that may infringe on the Constitution and laws of Rivers State and to take immediate corrective measures regarding any previous breaches.

This resolution followed agreements reached at the meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, 8th February, 2026 and the filing of Notice of Discontinuance of suits OYHC/7/CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026 by the Governor and Deputy Governor on Tuesday, 17th of February, 2026,” George said.

He added that as a demonstration of good faith and respect for the President, the lawmakers withdrew two matters before the Court of Appeal – Appeal No. CA/PH/3/2026 and Appeal No. CA/PH/32/2026 – on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

The lawmaker stated that both the governor and his deputy had pledged to comply strictly with constitutional provisions moving forward.

“As agreed among other things, the Governor and Deputy Governor have pledged to desist from infringing on the Constitution and laws of Rivers State moving forward and would both take immediate steps to remedy all previous infringements,” he said.

George expressed optimism that the commitments made would be honoured, stressing that adherence to the agreement would reinforce the rule of law and foster stability in the state.

He recalled that during plenary on Thursday, the House also resolved to halt impeachment proceedings earlier initiated against Governor Fubara and Prof. Odu.

The lawmaker thanked the people of Rivers State for their support and prayers for the 10th Assembly, while also commending President Tinubu for what he described as his leadership and fatherly role in resolving the dispute.
