Jeannie Mai is opening up about the emotional toll of her divorce from Jeezy and what she has learned about love since their split.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Question Everything podcast with host Danielle Robay, Mai described divorce as a deeply painful experience. “Divorce is heartbreaking, no matter what,” she said. “It’s one of the greatest pains that any human has to endure.”
She added, “Divorce is just, it’s experiencing death alive. It forces you to protect yourself to get what you need. It’s the worst.”
The former The Real co-host shares 4-year-old daughter Monaco with Jeezy and said she feels grateful their child was so young when the separation happened. “I am so lucky that Monaco was only one when this happened,” Mai explained. “She’s not gonna remember that turmoil. My job is to define peace for her.”
While acknowledging that some people celebrate divorce, Mai said it still carries heartbreak. “You never wish to corrupt something that was intended to be forever,” she reflected. “But divorce is also the greatest awakening.”
Looking ahead, Mai is not closing the door on marriage after also divorcing Freddy Harteis in 2018. “I really don’t want to block myself from love,” she said. “First, I have to define what healthy love looks like for me.”
