The Federal Capital Territory Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has cautioned officers against intimidating voters during the ongoing Area Council elections in the FCT.
Odumosu delivered the warning on Saturday while addressing officers deployed at the NSCDC FCT Command headquarters.
He reminded personnel to maintain professionalism at all times, stressing that accidental discharge of firearms is strictly forbidden within the corps.
“On no account should any personnel be seen assisting a voter, as that is not allowed; hence, you are to remain non-partisan.
“Our job is to ensure the protection of electorates, sensitive and non-sensitive materials and the voters who are out to discharge their rights.
“The idea is to ensure the election is fair and credible, as your job is to provide security,” he said.
The commandant also directed operatives to apprehend any individual attempting to disrupt the electoral process, warning against any form of compromise while on duty.
He disclosed that about 4,000 officers and men had been deployed to polling units across the territory to guarantee adequate security coverage.
Odumosu further urged personnel to collaborate effectively with other security agencies, noting that the shared objective was to deliver a peaceful and hitch-free Area Council poll in the FCT.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the commandant, accompanied by tactical teams, is currently carrying out security patrols and surveillance operations across the territory.
