Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson appears unbothered after learning he has been named in a $100 million defamation lawsuit.

The former NFL wide receiver reacted publicly this week after records showed he was listed as a defendant in a civil complaint accusing him of making false statements that allegedly harmed someone’s reputation and business dealings. Johnson did not appear rattled by the headline-making figure attached to the suit.

“I’ve been sued before, but this one made me laugh,” Johnson wrote on social media. “If I had $100 million just laying around, I promise you it wouldn’t be going to court.”

The lawsuit claims Johnson made damaging remarks in online conversations and media appearances that were widely shared. According to the filing, those statements caused financial losses and long-term damage to the plaintiff’s name.

Legal observers note that eye-popping dollar amounts are common in defamation cases involving public figures. A media attorney not connected to the case said, “The number grabs attention, but it doesn’t mean that amount is realistic or even attainable.”

Johnson has not yet responded formally in court, and his representatives declined to address the claims directly. Instead, he continued to joke online, calling the lawsuit “better comedy than anything on TV.”

“I’ll let the lawyers handle it,” Johnson added. “I’ve got jokes to tell.”

The case is still in its early stages, with no hearings scheduled.
