Cam’ron is opening up about the legal battle he’s waging against J. Cole, and he’s making it clear he feels left hanging after a mutual creative understanding.
Speaking on his YouTube series Talk With Flee, the Harlem rapper said he agreed to appear on Cole’s tracks with the expectation that the favor would eventually be returned.
According to Cam, that moment never came. “I did what I said I would do,” he shared, adding that when he finally asked for a verse, the answer felt like a stall tactic. “The chakra ain’t right right now,” Cam joked, recalling Cole’s response. “I was like, ‘Okay, well put your all into it.’”
Cam said the situation stung more because he delivered his own contribution verse expeditiously. “I knocked my verse out in like 20 minutes,” he said, adding that he prides himself on showing up when called.
After the verse didn’t materialize, Cam said he proposed an interview instead, which Cole initially agreed to before repeatedly postponing. According to Cam, timing around Cole’s album rollout and his reluctance to address his brief lyrical clash with Kendrick Lamar kept pushing things back.
“I told him I wouldn’t even bring it up,” Cam said. “He said he couldn’t do an interview and not talk about it.”
Cam’ron filed suit last fall, claiming he’s owed at least $500,000 and proper credit for his work. Cole has not publicly responded.
