Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Monday August 26, 2024 approved the request from the Ebonyi State Governor His Excellency, Rt. Honourable Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru seeking for the creation of more autonomous communities from Agbaja and Igbeagu autonomous communities in Izzi clan.
The approval took place at the House of Assembly Complex Nkaliki Road during emergency plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Moses Ije Odunwa.
Reading the letter from the Governor, the Speaker RT Hon Moses Ije Odunwa said the proposed autonomous communities when created, will help to not only bring development closer to grassroots, but also help to sustain the efforts of the government on security management in rural areas.
In his contribution, Hon Chief Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West State constituency commended the governor for rightful decision, noting that the land mass of Agbaja community from Hill top to Benue and Igbeagu from Onuebonyi Cross River State is enormous and deserved creation of more autonomous communities to advance the quest for improved human and infrastructural development to the door steps in interior communities
Adding his voice, the member representing Onicha East State Constituency Hon Celestine Ifeanyi Ogba who extolled developmental stride of Governor Nwifuru appealed for creation of more autonomous communities from Oshiri Community which he said remains only Community that has not received additional creation in old Ohaozara.
Contributing also, the member representing Ezza South Constituency Hon Friday Ogbuewu while eulogizing the developmental consciousness of the present government in the state called for the merging of Amegu and Amaezekwe, Amudo and Okofia , Ameka and Amelekwuna and Azuebonyi communities to have more autonomous communities for peace and easy governance.
Lending thier support, Hon Arinze Lukas Chukwu representing Ishelu South, Hon Joseph Ununu representing Abakalik South, Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu representing Ikwo North and Hon Innocent Chikaodili Nomeh representing Ezza North West Constituency descrbed the request as the most functional means of driving all spheres of development to the hinterlands.as well as improve the security of lives and property.
They advocated the expansion of such gesture to other communities across the state to liberate those whose the human population and land mass surpassed been one community for the interest of all.
The Deputy leader of the House, Hon Joseph Ununu moved motion for passage of the request and was seconded by House Deputy Whip Hon Lucas Arinze Chukwu.
The motion was put to vote by the Speaker of the House RT Hon Moses Ije Odunwa.and it was unanimously adopted.
The newly approved autonomous communities by the State House of Assembly are, Mgbo Agbaja,Abofia Mgbo, Oferekpe Agbaja, Ndiechi Agbaja, Nduegu Agbaja and Enyim autonomous communities from the old Agbaja autonomous community, while the four new autonomous communities carved out from Igbeagu autonomous community are, Ndubia, Nchoko, Ndiechi and Iphuigwe autonomous communities.
The Clerk, Mrs Uche Edene was directed to do a memo to the State Governor informing him of the decision of the House.
